Yeah, they do that and then add several Broken Image Links.
Do no click on these Broken Image Links to try to see the images because what happens is, they are broken because there are no images.
When you click on them with a Right-Click and choose "Open Image in New Tab or Window, the link instead opens a redirect page to either a Spam site or a legitimate site such as amazon.com but includes a Referral credit for the spammer. The referral credits may then add up enough to actually pay the spammer if enough people try to open the broken image to see it.
