The first one is the DNS IP address version of the URL for PN and if you use it,
it will give you a different error message than the one that you already have.
Breaks the monotony a bit!

... but it seems that the actual forum pages are NOT loading at this time.  :'( Problem with the forum software. Their config file may be damaged or not set up properly.

Well it could be an error by the admin, or they are sprucing up the place, maintenance or upgrade, else PN does that after some hacker has screwed up the php files.

The hackers screwed up the php files the last time PN was down, about a month or more ago, but then succeeded in planting redirects to that malware site in the files, This was the exploit that I posted about here, in regards to PN being infected with malware.

What I meant was their version of whatever is so old with the site having been around for so long, it's easier to hack? I'd like to think newer software affords you at least some small increase in protection.....

Did you know that you can easily find the IP Address and *some* extra information on any website by running a little-known Windows app?

Open Command Prompt, or click Start > Run.
In Command Prompt or in the Run window, type nslookup
Be sure you are connected to the internet when you do.

The Command Prompt console window will display some kind of result. If you run it from the Run window, the Command Prompt console window will appear and do the same.

Now, in the Command Prompt window, type the URL for the site that you want the IP (numerical address) for, for instance, www.pinballnirvana.com

nslookup will return the formal and the informal IP address.

You might gain a little more info by typing the URL and the SERVER name if you know it. The SERVER name should also be a URL. Type both on the same line separated by a space.
The first URL is the site that you want to know about.
The second URL is for the SERVER's URL.

When the program is running, the cursor prompt will change.
For help and other useful commands, type either help or a Question Mark "?" and hit enter.

I know it has been slow, but I've been busy. I didn't know that Sleepy. Still so much to learn.... :)

Yeah, it baffles me because I knew a long time ago about the domain name being addressed to a numerical IP address and, for years now, when there is a site having difficulty and I try the IP address to open the page, I've been Googling and before that, I used Excite!/Overture and I have never seen anything about the nslookup program. I've ended up using a third party online IP lookup service.
I suppose it might have something to do with not talking about it...maybe for security reasons??

Another cute app for the Command Prompt/Run is FTP
This is of course the FTP protocol for logging on using FTP instead of the HTTP protocol and you can upload files to your website using FTP...but I am not too familiar with it. I did use it many years ago when I had a webpage to upload files after AT&T Worldnet had network problems with their Personal Web Page HTML server.

And yes, I hope Jon is alright. The pacdude and irpinball sites are still up and running, so I don't thinks it's due to bankruptcy or...

Still down, wow! I guess the reality is that there are only a handful of active people there, and is it worth it? I can kind of relate with this place, but the difference is we are new.
