What a day.....!
« on: December 28, 2012, 08:49:44 PM »
First, I'm coming off a 1-9pm shift. I get home at 10pm, and I come back in at 5am. I'm tired, I've had 3 hours sleep, and I'm starting a 12 hour shift to help out today. I take over the truck from the previous driver and I get to the end of the driveway and I...... run out of fuel! Then at about 1pm, I get a call..... Monday will be my last day as they didn't get the new contract. WTF! Well, I found out who got the contract and tracked them down. Then I went and talked to them about working for them. I found out they had been researching me to work for them! So when I got off today I had a job interview lined up and by 7pm I got the job. ;D

Wonder what tomorrow will bring..... :o

Ooooo SHIT! I've had myself some pretty Standard Ass Fucking DAYS in recent weeks, and have yet to find out what goes on after Jan 20th. But DAMN, talk about no warning, and no chance for a Stay Of Execution, the ungrateful and incompetent scallywags!

Good luck with the new people! It's a VERY good sign that they were "already researching you" ... hope that goes well, and that you can transition to a far better situation with as little downtime as possible .... with the possible exception maybe of one good day off to just hibernate and catch yer breath!  :o *-Phew!!!-*

I should know by Wednesday. As far as I know, pending drug/background test, I'm in. As for the "researching", they went to managers and said, "who do you want to keep" ? My name and 1 other came up, along with some they didn't want. When the guy who interviewed me asked how we were being treated at our current place, he almost cringed hearing stories from another driver there with me. (We met at Dunkin Donuts for coffee, that was the interview). As of this morning I'm already being called to cover other people's shifts who said "screw it, I'm done with you guys". I believe in being professional, so I plan to finish my shifts out as long as it doesn't conflict with getting the new job. Essentially Monday is my last day there. I should start the new place Wednesday. ;D

Well, that's very cool!  8) Good luck on the new job, then. Hope there aren't any surprises or hidden bullshit.

It would be real cool to get on friendly terms with a dude, and then get hired on in that friendly tone. Shit, does that ever happen? I hope so ... hope that kind of thing turns up soon for me.

Hey, thought u were gonna be pissed at me by not being around today. Was gonna take a nap, but then said I'd better get online and se if Itchy is here. ... well u r NOT!  ;D Wherefore art thou man??

Nah ... jk ... gonna get started on Olympics now ... just wondering if you wanted to watch on the cam ...

The reason I wasn't around was I work 5pm-1am on Sunday. Well, I had to go in early, got home at 2am, went to bed at 3:30, the phone rang at 4:30- can I come in as someone else said screw it and blew off their shift. So, I went in this morning and did another 8 hours . I'm as disgruntled as the next guy, but I believe in being professional. As long as coming in doesn't affect my new job, I will finish it out even if I wasn't treated well. Just so I can hold my head up high and say I gave it my whole assed effort. :)

Oh, and I got my new schedule.... 4-12hour days. I get not one but 3 days off!! Holy shit!!

it does happen Pintrepid!
I have had a few jobs where I had gotten hired just from being pals with the bosses!
One job I actually got I was on my lunch break from another job and happen to be bsing with this guy
when he tells me he needed a driver for his new company
so for the next ten years or so I worked for him
and I did happen to have on a t shirt and cargo shorts with work boots when he hired me!
also when I first started in vending I got hired at a go go bar of all places talking with the owner
who also owned the bar
he told me he needed a 'pinball mechanic in training' so I jumped at it!
that job lasted ten years also until I got injured (knee blew out)
then during my down time they hired an idiot
who proceeded to drive the company bankrupt within eight months
the company had over three hundred stops and due to his ineptness they lost them all
but going for an interview nowadays is far different than it was in the 80's/90's!
I wear my 'sunday best' when I go for one  now
I am never wrong Once I thought I was
 but I was merely mistaken

As you should. I've gotten a job at a bar meeting/interview before. (Don't worry, I let him win). This was good timing, coupled with fast action and a good attitude. At the meeting, another driver there with me was telling war stories about the company- too many! It's ok to say why you want to leave and what they're doing to you, but don't be excessive about it!
