Trapshoot
« on: October 21, 2012, 03:19:32 PM »
Author- Shockman (Put up with permission).

Shockman was kind enough to make this for me. It's a recreation of Gremlin's Trapshoot. This was a game that hung on a wall, you walked up to it and put your quarter in, then took the transmitter back to your table.

Gameplay:
5- Add credit
1- Start game
Right control- Selects shooter (you have no choice), then you wait for the skeet. When you see the skeet you get 1 shot- Right control again.

Your hit is rated at 1 to 4.
4 is a trophy.
7 Trophy's are a free game.

Thank you.

Just to be clear, this is not emulated.

And though right control works as Itchigo says, the intended control is left control and player 2 Keypad ENTER on the other side of the keyboard. SPACEBAR also works for either player. The mouse button and joystick button also works.

F1 shows info and F5 is a settings page where you can change many things, including how many trophies for a free game.

Thanks again.

No, thank you! You did a great job on this. I'm so glad I can enjoy it again. I didn't know about changing options though. I'll have to play with that. I'll change the name here. I really don't know the definition of emulation.

As a general term, emulation is simulation, but in computer jargon they are very different.

The things that can be changed is the clay speed, the shot speed, the score to play to for two players, the misses allowed for a one player game (the play to number still counts as well), the number of trophies for a free game, and outside 'emulation', the hit type, (original one frame graphic, or a partical effect).

Emulation is the process of mimicking the outwardly observable behavior to match an existing target. The internal state of the emulation mechanism does not have to accurately reflect the internal state of the target which it is emulating.

Simulation, on the other hand, involves modeling the underlying state of the target. The end result of a good simulation is that the simulation model will emulate the target which it is simulating.

Ideally, you should be able to look into the simulation and observe properties that you would also see if you looked into the original target. In practice, there may some shortcuts to the simulation for performance reasons -- that is, some internal aspects of the simulation may actually be an emulation.

MAME is an arcade game emulator; Hyperterm is a (not very good) terminal emulator. There's no need to model the arcade machine or a terminal in detail to get the desired emulated behavior.

Flight Simulator is a simulator; SPICE is an electronics simulator. They model as much as possible every detail of the target to represent what the target does in reality.

Wait a minute, I have been searching for an emulation of this game for years. This is the original Gremlin trapshoot? I gotta try it. WOW! I was getting close to looking for a real one on Ebay!

When you say it is not an emulation, does that mean it is just a pic of the screen? I downloaded it and it doesn't do anything, there was an emulation in progress a long time ago but never finished. How do I get this to work? Later, Vic

This is a very good copy of the game. I used to operate the real one in the day. Shockman did an excellent job.
To play, drag it out of the zip filer and make sure it's unblocked. Doubleclick on it. same as vp, 5 adds coin, 1 starts, spacebar shoots, and escape closes. Won't work with Pinball X. Shockman redid the graphics, although I did talk to Lonnie Pogue who did the real graphics, he didn't have anything left from the day. Having played the real one I can tell you the only thing not perfect is the crowd sound on trophies. Just a little different is all, something only I would know. You never will.

And for the record if you read this, I was a part of the company, but before it was Tim Todd services. Before it was Tim Todd services, it was Movies and Games. We had a licensing issue with a jukebox and the village of Mount Prospect wanted a shitload of money. So my dad said fu, I'm bankrupt, and reorganized. Since the old president can't be the new president with a bankruptcy, he sold the company to me for 1$ and I was president and CEO of Tim Todd services until the period was over and I sold the company back to him. Then I went into trucking...

Wow, interesting story, I bet I could tell the crowd sound differences. So this is made to run with VP? Oh, I thought it was a stand alone thing. I will have to try on my pinball rig.

Happy Birthday, viktory2k1!

Any progress on your rotator cuff, etc? Hope your pinball rig is behaving itself, and your son isn't raking you over the coals too seriously...

I figured you wouldn't get a reply notification from the Birthday Thread, since I didn't see that you have ever posted there, so I thought I'd try the last topic you accessed.

How do you like VPX (ten)? I spent most of the last year and a half with a progressively sick XP desktop and finally gave up on it, buying an HP Compaq Elite 8000 with 7 last March; the last ten months have just disappeared and I haven't played any VPX tables yet...with my luck, they'll be on VPXII before I get to VPX. :Cussing:

Anyway, I haven't yakked with you in a while, so have a good B-day and enjoy the new (48th) year!

Gregg
