Okay, so this is the issue...Our building's parking lot is being sealcoated.  There has been a note up on both bulletin boards, in both elevators, and in other strategic places.  Still, people leave their cars in the parking lot on the day that the sealcoating is taking place!  It's not like there wasn't enough warning!  The property management company told the sealcoaters to go around them.  There are three spots in the parking lot that aren't sealcoated, so it looks weird!  I just wish that people would work with us instead of against us.  It'll make things a lot easier on everyone!

Happy July 4th, or Independence Day, or whatever you call it.

I feel I need to say something.  Did you ever really study the words of  Frances Scott Key's Star Spangled Banner?  What do they mean to you?  Think about it.
For your consideration, here are the lyrics in their entirety!
God Bless our Nation and it's leaders.
Rukia

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Y'all behave yourselves or I'll have to smack ya's!

WOW! No wonder Hayley Mills never covered this thing!

(Food for thought, though. Thanks, Rukia)

It's interesting to note that the song, starting as a poem, was written after Francis Scott Key,the author, witnessed the Battle Of Fort McHenry in 1812. It's also interesting to note that the poem was set to the same tune as "To Anacreon In Heaven", a popular British drinking song back in that day. How typical for early Americans to take the Brits at their own pompous asininity and turn it into an American patriotic song in defiance to the domineering British of the day.

It was a completely different world back then.

I'm frequently moved by the movie, "The Patriot", with Mel Gibson. Towns were very much smaller back then. And if someone came into your church and said, "The local militia is being called up. I'm here to enlist every man willing." ... what would we do?

Nowadays, I think most people have forgotten where the US came from, and have the "It's all about ME!" mentality. Certainly the younger crowd has no idea what it means to believe in anything or what a gruesome business it is to fight for a good cause. Those who've gone to Iraq must have had a very rude awakening. But among their peers they totally don't have a clue ...

odd all these years and I never knew it contained four verses!
I am a 'Yankee doodle dandy' guy being born on the fourth
but in school even we were just taught the first verse
we were never even told that it had three more!
 gotta' love our schools!
the film The Patriot also stars the late great Heath Ledger as Mels son
Heath to me is or was one of the great younger actors to come along in a while
he played the patriotic son part with perfection
going back to the kids of today the things they believe in are much different
than what we believe in,  they are all for FB (facebook) and crap like that
anything that brings them together VIRTUALLY is okay with them
but god forbid they ever have to venture outside  their protective little cocoons
to actually meet face to face!
and they poo poo the wars we were involved in not knowing that we fought
for their freedom maybe not on an actual battlefield but in other ways as well
even though at times especially on vpf I say I hate our country
what that means is I really hate our government but will fight to the death
for my homeland if or when that time comes
I hate our government and what it stands for today but I do love this country of ours
 and what it represents!
So God Bless America and all those who fought and gave their lives to bring us that freedom
I am never wrong Once I thought I was
 but I was merely mistaken

Is it just me, or are the holidays coming up faster and faster.  And I'm not just talking about Halloween, Thanksgiving, & Christmas (although, they all seem to be running together this year), but I mean even the "Hallmark" holidays too.  I suppose what I'm saying in a nutshell is that the years are flying by, and I'm just marking by how quickly the holidays come and go.

I know when that earthquake in Japan happened, it tilted the Earth's axis and time had sped up just a bit, but still...  I'm getting old and I don't like it.  The only comfort I can take is that Itchy was BORN OLD (and I don't mean an old soul)! LOL!!

There doesn't seem to be enough time in the year to get everything done! LOL!
Oh well!
