TESTING my desktop machine :)

Just installed PCLinuxOS along with Windows XP.

My laptop finally bit the big one. Screen went black as midnight.

I can't use this desktop machine much as it's a pain in the ass but it's better than nothing.

Working on getting a power adapter and ZIF drive for my other laptop.

This is a 2.8 GHz Celeron system but it only has 1GB of RAM. I'll need another gig to even attempt to use VP in Windows.

Thanks Tim. This desktop machine has also crashed BIG TIME. Have no idea what happened. I think the reason is only having 1GB and when online the memory gets full. I am currently talking to someone on Ebay that has helped me in the past to get TWO 1GB sticks for this and that MAY resolve the problem.

After I replaced the hard disk cable, the machine ran normally. I had NO IDEA hard disk cables went out. I'm shocked and GLAD I have a few spares laying around!

I just got a power adapter for the Dell laptop and the machine works perfect except I cannot use it properly without a 1.8 PATA (IDE) ZIF drive. So to use that online (which is easier for me) I can't as of yet. The power adapter works for the most part but refuses to charge the battery; I need to find a DELL required power adpater for it to charge and function properly. I have to find the 65watt one for the Dell Latitude D430. I'm still looking. The laptop DOES start and keeps running as long as it's plugged in so that is something! :)

Anyway. thanks for the help. I'm trying on my end and it's coming along but after my desktop system crashed I about threw it out the window. I WAS PISSED when it did this.

I have yet to even mess with VP on this desktop but have found that I get the "disappearing balls" in the kicker effects with hidden kickers. WEIRD! I have to make them normal kickers and they're transparent on my system - I don't understand this at all!

That's a vp thing, I had that happen on my cab too with different versions. I use the last 9.21.

Oh, and uh, my first computer I ever had- an IBM ThinkpadA31 (circa 2003) I bought in late 2008, can run vp8, and even some vp9. That's with a 2.0ghz and 1gb of ram. It even ran fp with a 16 MB video card. Yes it had lag, but it ran 3 Angels without locking up!

For the power adapter I can check a place across the street, they have a box of old stuff I've rummaged through.

Even VP 9.2.1 r866 does it so it must be this NVidia graphic card. Don't know. The power cord I have works just fine as long I keep the adapter plugged in. Never goes off. BUT - apparently if you do not use a DELL certified power adapter the battery will not recharge and the machine runs half the speed. So far both are correct as this little laptop is like a snail. I'm currently using an HP power adapter that keeps the power on and working but the machine moves like an old fart.

If you can find a DELL certified 65w adapter that would be great Tim. I have not even tried to use VP on this desktop because of a few issues. Once I get the little Dell Latitude D430 laptop running I'll be blazing with VP. Strange thing is that the Dell Latitude D430's screen is 1280x800; never seen one like this but it is crystal clear graphics and the laptop was free. Just missing the 65w power adapter and the 1.8 PATA (IDE) ZIF drive.

If I could throw this NVidia card in the trash (from the desktop machine) and replace it with a REAL GRAPHIC CARD by ATI I would have by now. But the machine runs and that's all that counts.

I miss my old HP ze4900 BIG TIME.

My cab did that too, then stopped for some reason. Who knows, maybe a graphics setting. I have WAY more power than you do, so it aint a power issue I can tells ya that.

I52400k Overclocked to 4.0 on air cooling (I revised the "Turbo Mode" it was 3.4ghz)
16gb ddr3 1600mhz ram (will take 32gb)

It's fast. I once did a 110gb backup in an hour flat.

Just added 2GB of DDR ValuRAM by Corsair to this system. NOW we're getting somewhere.
Can't beat FREE memory. Glad I have some good friends!

Have downloaded drivers for my GeForce card as well. Pretty soon, I hope to be getting much more done!
