the testers at the Newark NJ building said to me that my scores were the highest in twenty years
that ain't saying too much for the others who have enlisted prior to me
so they ask me what do you want to be? "you can do anything" they tell me
so I say to them "a jet mechanic like my dad was" and they looked at me funny
like I had leprosy or something
what is wrong with wanting to work with my hands?
gotta remember in '83 there were no computers for the public workplace
so that job was never even considered
My dad was in the Korean war but was stationed in Oklahoma fixing B29's!
and he got to fly them too and loved every minute of it
my folks even got married out there during his stint and got busy making my older sister!
so next spring me and my cousins are going to rent a B29
to spread his ashes into the open sky!
He will love this gesture I am certain
Hey, Faralos, you were at Chanute AFB?? Well, so was I! GEE, whatta small world it is!
I was there from Aug-Oct '80, training in A-school meteorology for the Navy.
Chanute was a very strange place ... and there were several memories from partying in Rantoul, including a scuffle with the cops one night while hanging out in the local park all COCKED outta our flippin' MINDS!
Also had my first corndog there in Rantoul at a restaurant that reminds me of that doughnut shop from Wayne's world. There were also 3 pinball tables there, but for the life of me, I can't remember which ones. Atari's The Atarians I think, and maybe a Williams late model EM ..
Rockin good times there in the cornfields of IL ...
