I was all set to upgrade my XP/Celeron D/HD4670 AGP computer (or, was I, really?) when someone called Mukuste shuffled some cards and VP9.9.0 made my system much less obsolete---except for the 'XP' part. The withdrawal of Microsoft's support has me looking under every rock for the venomous millipede that might kill my 'price-was-right (free) gaming machine, which has has been slowing noticeably in the last month or so, finally taking over five minutes to shut down yesterday.
Here's where the reference to Relatives comes in: my thirty-seven-year-old nephew, born with multiple computer peripherals in selected orifices, is quite the I.T. guy, and is among several who have opined that modern computers do not benefit from defragmenting (what---fragments just resort themselves?). If I were allowed to swear here, I'd say, "BULLSHIT!"---but I won't.
Anyway, it finally occurred to me that I hadn't defragged in a while (ten months, as it turns out) and when I checked, I had 22% total fragmentation out of 66,590 files. After defragging, the difference was like night to day. No more 'unresponsive programs', etc., so; XP users.....DEFRAG!
Sent from my Logitech K120 Type 'n' type again.
