How to install Visual Pinball
« on: November 17, 2012, 12:03:23 AM »
VP Installation instructions:

Make a new folder on your desktop to extract the zip files from. (1.jpg)

Highlight all the files and drag them to the new folder. (1.jpg)

For Windows 7:
Rightclick on the Setup.exe and "Run as administrator" (Shown) (2.jpg)

For Windows XP: Doubleclick (leftclick) on the setup.exe (2.jpg)

Click "Next". (3.jpg)

Sign your life away to the terms. Just kidding, agree to the terms. (4.jpg)

Choose where to run VP from with the "Browse" button. The default is shown, but you can run it from anywhere, even a different partition within the drive. But, your files must be where they are supposed to be. Example.
C:\ProgramFiles[x86]\VisualPinball  is the default. A "Tables" folder will be created there, making it C:\ProgramFiles[x86]\VisualPinball\TABLES
This tables folder will hold your games and other files. This "Tables" folder can be anywhere, so long as the above line is set to find it where it's at.
Mine are at E:\Visual Pinball\Tables, and VP is set to find them there. I hope this is clear enough but the default is perfectly fine. All I'm saying is if you want to relocate, you have that option. (5.jpg)

Click "Next". (6.jpg)

Close and VisualPinball is installed! (8.jpg)

Windows 7 only:
Setup- you only have to do this once. Rightclick on the VP 9.1.3.exe and hit properties (9.jpg), then compatability (10.jpg). Check the box at the bottom "Run this program as an administrator". Also above check "run this program in compatibilty mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3). Hit apply, and ok.

To play: this installs VP9 (version 9.1.3). To play VP9 tables simply doubleclick the blue button for the table. Escape and "exit to windows" will get you out of the game.

Some notes:
Add your new tables to the tables folder.

There are some VBS files specific to the particular game that may not be included with the installer. Usually if a table requires a special one the author includes it in the download with the table. Any VBS files you add must go in the "Tables" folder, or the same folder that the table is being run from.

The same goes for the Freeimage.DLL file. That goes wherever you run the table(s) from. You can also have multiple copies of it, to run tables from multiple folders if you wish. I.E, testing a table from the desktop.

This is only for Visual Pinball- No Roms tables! There is a separate installer for that and I'll walk you through that next.

hey don't forget all those fonts that are so sorely needed
to run the scoring displays correctly

I have all my vp folders sitting on my  desktop
with the pinmame default reset for the desktop folders
these folders include vp8, vp9.07, vp9.1.2 and vp9.1.3
and even FP although FP does not need anything else to run
it is just easier to gather them all in one place
I am never wrong Once I thought I was
 but I was merely mistaken

This has been updated for VP 9.90. The procedure is the same, but the files have been updated. My VBS files, and Nvram are now included in the .zip

Run the installer as shown above. Unzip all Nvram files to the Nvram folder. Unzip all VBS files to where the tables are. Any problems? We're here to help.
