Title: Madness in VP9.1.2
Post by: GSGregg on July 02, 2013, 06:53:02 PM
If this subforum is intended for newer tables, I trust that someone will happily let me know :Whiteflag:

I haven't had much time recently to immerse in the hobby, and haven't updated to VP9.1.3 or above yet, but I grew a wild hair and decided to try JP's Medieval Madness v2.3.2, which I downloaded on July 10, two years ago. Where, I asked myself, did this big white rectangle come from? My preferences are set (or were; I've tried 'em all) at 1024 max res, Alpha off, Hardware Rendering off (ATI HD4670 AGP), etc. etc.etc. The Rectangle Remains.

As far as I remember, the only thing VP9.1.x needed back then is Freeimage.dll, which I have. Any chance this table somehow got another update or something?

(Dilemma: I attached a screenshot, but it didn't show up in Preview. Here goes nuttin'!)
Edit: Ahhh!! There it is!

It's cool. Although vp has seemed to have endless new versions, it sounds like your graphics card. Try 512 for textures. You're running xp, so I can't say compatability mode.

I know that the newest version of vp requires the newer  Freeimage.dll file
but that should only be for vp9.1.5 and up
can you go into the editor and just click and move that piece?
it looks like it was for  the sling plastics
but should not have been placed there
I use xp but don't have that particular table and never encountered that problem
not yet anyhow

Sorry, Tim; no change at 512. It reminded me of a similar problem with, uh.....wtf was it...oh, yeah---Lord Of The Rings v2.4 (2.3 rendered okay, but I guess 2.4 was the flavor du jour with Alpha, etc. and I thought I'd try it. The squares, rectangles, et al are Flashers done with alpha, I think, but I don't remember what, if anything, remedied the problem; I never found it.

Hi, faralos;

I haven't spent enough (any) time in the Editor to be moving things around without worrying about losing/destroying them :Flush: This problem was pretty common for a while---a couple of years ago.

I'm still guessing the graphics card can't handle the awesomeness of JP's table. Even at 2 years ago, some table still taxed systems. Nevermind the new vp with primatives- fuggetaboutit. But, this is what it can do (flippers). So, you don't know if this ever worked then, correct?

Hmmmm.....good-looking screenshot, but what's that about flippers?

I suppose not; with my penchant for staying 'vintage', I'm not even sure why I tried these two. I guess they were simply the talk of the town, and when my rig coughed up on them I quit trying.

Another bummer: when the new and the old use the same rom and your initials appear with a trillion points that you can now never reach. :Cussing:

The flippers have an image on them that says "flipper", and not the stock ones. And, they look damn good considering I messed with the graphics....

I can send you the 2.2 version if you don't have it.

Hand-drawn lettering? or, sizing a font to the flippers' contours.....

I can send you the 2.2 version if you don't have it.
The 2.2 version of.....the table? As long as it's Desktop, I'm game. Thanks.

No, I'm not that brave.... I changed the colors.

Hah.....I thought you meant King Of Diamonds v2.2, which you presented in FS, and which I couldn't find anywhere. 'Tis cool, though---I didn't have MM 2.2, either. Now to go try it out. Thanks again.

Well....it coulda been worse. Three castles dismantled before the seat was warm, and the second ball was the biggie---until two balls froze for about six seconds (while the music missed nary a beat) and then disappeared, ending the ball. I wound up with a tad over 55 million, but the replay was at 56. Oh, well.....considering I've forgotten the strategy.....

At least there were no white rectangles!

back when I owned a computer with the dreaded Intel graphics chip in it
I also got those odd green or white squares over everything
now that I have two towers one with a Radeon card one with an Nvidia card
all those oddities vanished EXCEPT for fading lights and alpha ramps
two thing my computers still won't show correctly
so the sliding bar for alpha ramps sits all the way to the left
or at times for certain pins I must swap them out for acrylic ones
or click on that option just to play the pins
so it definitely sounds like yer graphics card can't handle the
new fangled toys

faralos;

Yeah. One would think that one gig of ddr3 could handle some embellishments, but this thing doesn't like HDR at all, and can't even flip or launch balls properly in Pro Pinball or Full Tilt! Pinball---and those are old! Of course, I belabored those points in my old "So Much for the Upgrade" thread, so let's have a beer while I determine whether I've gotten $125 worth of complaints in during the last 28 months.  :Cussing:

Actually, I only have 1g of ddr3. I'm guessing maybe you need more processing power? But I have enough power to... well, let's just say it's nickname is Norad. :Green:

this tower I am currently using has 2 g ram with a radeon card
and can even handle a graphic rich program like Dream pinball with ease
but it still stutters with fading light vp pins and some of the newer hologram filled FP pins
  go figure

Just for clarification: The 1GB of ddr3 I mentioned is the HD4670's Vram. The tower's Ram is 2GB ddr3200 (400MHz) and the CPU is Celeron D-331@ 2.66GHz (133MHz x 20) on an SiS 661FX-M7 mobo.
No way to upgrade any one component (I tried with the HD4670 and look what it got me :Cussing: ) so here I sit procrastinating.

---IDEA---
Look up the procedure and stick CPU-Z in my Rogue sig.

See,  there's your problem. My old server had a p4, and going to a full 1g from a 128 mb card, had no effect. The reason? The processor and memory can only handle so much from the card without slowing down. In other words, the graphics card can feed information to the processor faster than it can handle it. It sounds like that's the case with your setup. You can put whatever card you like in it, and it'll only go so fast. The only thing you can do is upgrade the motherboard and processor/ram.

I don't know what version I have on my cab, but when I built it, I OVER built it! I have a 1g ddr3 card but, I have an I-5 with 16g of ddr3 ram, so I can put any card I want in it. (I can support 32g ram, but it's overkill). :Content:

Think that's bad? I just got this today working on my laptop at work. Never seen this this bad. This wip doesn't even have any flashers or anything!!

Maybe things are getting TOO primitive? :Green:

didya' turn off HD rendering?
that looks like the old Moire patterns I used to get with my older tower
the one that had Intel graphics chips with 512k ram on it!
