Hey, all you snowbound midwesterners, easterners, and campers in the Canadias (well, maybe it hasn't happened yet, but it will. We actually have some rain tonight in drought-plagued Southern California!)

Merry Christmas to all, especially those who still perceive utility and value in cars that are unencumbered by all of that warranty nonsense! Case in point: Some of you know of my rough red '66 Skylark Gran Sport (475,000 miles and still guzzling what is claiming to be premium gas).....well, I just put my '67 Impala (327 / 275HP, THM400) on the ground after 12.5 years jacked up with a rear end that didn't quite manage to grind itself into powdered steel before I caught it. Message to kids; it could be a nice sleigh, but there's no room for gifts and toys, because the trunk is full of tools hiding from the rain!

What does the above have to do with virtual pinball? Absolutely nothing. Just a different kind of rant, I guess.

Hope everyone is well and knows how to handle all of the food you'll be sent home with.

Found the 'What I Got For Christmas' topic in which you displayed the Escort 2 years ago, but for some reason I was still picturing you adjusting breaker points. How many miles on the M-B when you waved goodbye?

The Mercedes I bought in 1996,  and drove it until 2008. It was a 4 cylinder ohc gas which was rare, but not valuable. :Censored: But what I did to it over the years..... Well, the stock 0-60 time (100 kilometers 62.5 mph) was 14.6 seconds. I had it down to high 8's/low 9's. Mind you this is for a 3200 lb car rated at 100 hp (138 cubic inches). The trans limited it to 96 mph redline, but I had it to 1oo mph a few times to say I did it. :Green: (Not the fastest I've been in a car though by a longshot) :Whistle: I replaced the stock Stromberg sidedraft carb with a 2 bbl Weber, and drilled out the jets to boot. The stock Dwell was 50 degrees, but it ran best at 46. I'd also adjusted the timing to where it would just start to knock lightly under full load. 18-19 degrees btdc. I made a turn one time and got rubber all the way through 3rd. That was the end of that tire...

I tried to do rust repair in the trunk area. What lives under the trunk? The gas tank. So I installed a junkyard tank in the back seat since it was my only car at the time. You can imagine the looks I got opening the back door to put gas in from the "fill the boot firefighters" on the corner..... But I had the tank sealed and strapped down properly. You couldn't smell it at all. Shit, I even had the gas gauge working! :Lol:

The Escort I bought for my wife 1 year old in 1996 with 12,000 miles. At the time I had 5 vehicles for 2 people. :Rolleyes: I bought 1 year old to save the depreciation.
