B2s is coming along......slowly
« on: January 26, 2013, 07:35:12 PM »
I'm testing the new B2s editor. It's WONDERFUL. I'm amazed at what has gone into it. Once you have made one or two, it's easy to use. I've made one, so it's hard. ::) But I also found a new use for it- rendering lighing. This backglass doesn't work, but it looks so nice!! As I have no real atrtisic ability whatsoever I'm amazed I was able to do this at work today. This is 99% mspaint, and rotating the image .08 degrees right with ps. Then I rendered lighting with the b2s editor. The way it works now, you could put ANY image in the editor, render lighting, easily, then export the lit image. I'm talking playfields here too. This is going to be AWESOME when it comes out!!!!!

rendering lighting comes rather easily to me since I discovered Gimp2
and its 'Dodge' and 'Burn' tools Dodge adds shadows while the 'Burn' tool adds lighting
or lighting effects to a play field or back glass
I am sure PhotoShop has these effects in it too but Gimp IMO
is far easier a program to get into and learn how to use
but what exactly are B2's anyway?
do they use animation at all or are they just static back glasses?

I can use Photoshop and Gimp, as I have both, but I have a hard time getting it to look like what I want. Herweh did such an unbelievable job on this. Ok, B2s is Backglass, 2 screens. This will do the same thing that uvp will do, and more. It's basiclly a way to display the scores on the backglass, without the lag, and is customizeable. It works with VPM and originals, ss, and dmd games too. Yes, it supports animations. Essentially here's what you do:

Import you bg, and darken it a bit so the lighting will "pop" more. This is done with a slider.

Add your lights. Stretch and size the light and see in real time what it looks like. Then, if you like, export the illuminated image as I did. Instead of having to code all this in Visual Studio, this is done by the program. You assign the light ID number, and call it in the script. Same with the reels, etc.

Add your script calls. There are stock commands that are used with the light ID.

This is still in the testing phase, I am a tester.

is there a separate program that handles just b2's
I can do all that in gimp except for the slider thing
in Gimp it is the contrast option along with brightness
that I must set for a darker bg

For me it's much easier to do it this way. I now have working lights and reels. Look for FS b2s's of Cowboys and Indians, and Flash 2 in the immediate future. ;D

Flash and Thunder and uses two Pink Floyd songs in it as well
as some by ACDC and Rammstein and a new table layout
plastics,  playfield images, backdrop etc...
I really can't believe we thought that was coded great
have you seen our earlier works Itchigo?  the coding is horrendous to say the least
ah well you and I have come so far since our first works !!

Rammstein rules! Yeah, I know about the coding. I redid the coding on Cowboys and Indians. I thought I did so good when I did it. I had 9 collections. I redid it today at work and took 260 lines off of it!

Hi Itchy,
The B2S setup looks great, I downloaded the preview beta that was available and dropped it in the cab today. Looking forward to your cowboys and Indians, and Olympics with B2S. Think I might take up designing some B2S back glasses if I can get my head round the program. Cheers Buzz :D
