Good God, and I'm Broke.
Valentine's Day is Definitely one of those traditions that I have Always wanted to check out.

I remember celebrating the day in elementary school, exchanging cards and Hearts with the girls and they with me, but then my family moved to Los Angeles and by Junior High for some reason the older schools do not celebrate the day at all.
The elementary schools encourage the practice, but not when it might count?

in middle school (or what we used to call junior high) the card giving stops
due to the fact that they are entering puberty and not everyone gets cards
card giving is all about popularity and in middle school most kids would rather stay anonymous
again due to puberty making some of them awkward
so the card giving thing and the parties all stop at grade 6 or thereabouts
most kids older than that see in class parties as childish
they'd rather go or NOT go  to a school dance than to have an actual party in class
(and to NOT receive any cards is embarrassing to most kids in class)
I know,  I wasn't popular and I never got any cards...EVER!)
kind of like a real life Charlie Brown
I am never wrong Once I thought I was
 but I was merely mistaken

Funny Faralos, Rukia says I look like Charlie Brown when I golf.... I was never popular either, but I said screw it and ignored the world for like 25 years and did my own thing. If the world didn't want me, I'd find my own corner....

I wasn't popular either,
but having been born a cleft palate *I think* the girls felt sorry for me, so I always got a pile of cards.
And then they left with somebody else...

I do remember getting clever one year, 5th grade and I made a Valentine's Mail Box out of a shoe box for my desktop. It had a slot on top for any cards I might receive, but I made a little house out of it with cut out windows attached to puppet strings. When someone put a card in the slot, I pulled a string which opened one of the windows to reveal a Thank you, a Heart, and so on.

That got a lot of oohs and ahhs.

Then they left with somebody else...

I was nominated for class president EDIT: School President..by a girl who *I think* had a crush on me.

We had a presentation assembly in the school auditorium and each of the three candidates spoke to the entire school body from a prepared speech.
My challenger was a girl who, while onstage to deliver her campaign speech, stepped up to the mic and immediately unspooled A Large Roll of Paper which contained a list of everything that she promised to do for the students, and it unrolled across the stage.
Very Lucy Van Pelt, except that she was blond, and she won the election.
I came in second. I made realistic promises to the voters given that I was only a 5th grader and not The School Principal...and they rejected every one of them.

That was My Charlie Brown Experience.

I made realistic promises to the voters.

See that was your first mistake...(jk). You'll never get elected with that attitude. :P
I hate to say it but most voters are stupid, they WANT someone to blow sunshine... ::)

Well you know, I didn't mean to run anyway.
I was nominated by said girl, so I felt obligated to those
who had respect for me.

you mention a cleft palate I feel for ya'
I have both adhd and hyperactivity
and I stutter something fierce when I get over-excited
along with what was diagnosed as MBD which stands for Minimal Brain Dysfunction
that means my brainwaves don't fire normally and some things I just can't fathom
like vp coding took me almost two years to really understand
so every grade in school I was that one weirdo who got to go to the 'special' classes
during the normal classes so I could 'stay even with my peers' or so the teachers all said
yeah like kids are nice when they find out you are 'special'
and since I have a genius IQ but was failing every subject I got picked on for that too
and getting beaten up  almost on a daily basis
either from my classmates or the neighborhood hoodlums
to the tune of dropping out in tenth grade
and having to continue my education by myself
(computer school and Machinist schools)
so down with bullies also that is my main reason for wanting to help everyone
so they don't ever have to put up with what I did all those years
by not knowing as much as my 'peers'

I know what you mean man.

I had a speech impediment, so I got to go to speech therapy.
We played a lot of Lotto there, but it wasn't the lottery!
Lotto is also the name of a game used for speech therapy. Or was.

And I had 'special bullies', kids from the Hollywood community who were pissed off for being stage-mothered. That made it extra bitchy when they could not respect somebody who had an excuse not to give a speech, perform, etc.

A couple of those punks then went delinquent, pushing drugs and bootleg records that they had access to through their Hollywood families.
Later in the 1970's, they started Apple Computer.
