Get Adobe Photoshop CS2 for free officially

and still it takes about twenty minutes for the download

Adobe is NOT giving away their CS2 software for free! Sorry ...
According to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1114930, the software provided is for existing licensed users of the CS2 software, if they need to reactivate their Adobe installations. Being older software, Adobe had decided to discontinue the server they were using for CS2 activations. The provided files will require an existing licensed serial number to allow installation. The new serial numbers that are posted with the files will then be used with the new install once authentication is approved.
I rather thought that was strange that Adobe would be just "giving away" their stuff. They may should have explained this better when they posted the fylez :P

Or openSource ... GIMP is every bit as good as Photoshop, and really is free.

It is. I find myself going to Gimp whenever there's something I don't understand in PS too. Trouble is, I don't get either...... ::)
